In today’s rapidly evolving technological landscape, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful tool for workplace safety monitoring. As an AI company specializing in computer vision, Buddywise is thrilled to announce two groundbreaking new features that focus not only on safety, but also data privacy. Our latest innovation introduces two unique approaches to obfuscating individuals within video footage: blurred bounding boxes for detected human forms and replacing human forms with animated stick figures. In this blog post, we explain how this feature works from a technical perspective and also delve into the crucial significance of data privacy in AI to highlight the importance of preserving workers’ rights.
Data Privacy Within AI
Data privacy has become an indispensable concern in the era of AI-driven advancements. While computer vision technologies provide valuable insights and enhance workplace safety, it is crucial to ensure that individual privacy remains intact. Our commitment to data privacy stems from our dedication to upholding the rights and dignity of every worker.
Privacy concerns surrounding AI primarily revolve around the sensitive nature of personal data, including biometric information, facial recognition data, and behavioral patterns. By prioritizing data privacy, we aim to strike a balance between leveraging AI for workplace safety and respecting workers’ rights to privacy and autonomy. At the heart of our mission is the recognition that privacy is an inherent human right, and it must be safeguarded in the workplace. As we develop innovative solutions for workplace safety monitoring, we remain steadfast in our commitment to empowering workers and ensuring their privacy.
How the Tech Works
By employing our novel obfuscation techniques — blurred bounding boxes and animated stick figures — we allow individuals to maintain their privacy without compromising safety. Our goal is to strike a harmonious balance between effective safety monitoring and preserving the privacy and dignity of workers.
First, video feed data is received via an API within the Buddywise system architecture which identifies the human form. The people obfuscation algorithm captures the human form by detecting limbs and the specific joints for movement to overlay the skeleton. Then different AI libraries are used to completely blur the bounding box which are rectangular region annotations used for supervised learning in computer vision. This ensures complete anonymization. Both blurred bounding boxes and skeleton overlays are available together and separate as anonymization tools.
Worker’s Rights in a Digital World
We firmly believe that workers have the right to be informed and have control over how their personal data is collected, used, and stored. By championing transparency, consent, and data minimization, we reinforce the ethical foundation of our AI solutions and foster an environment of trust between employers and employees. As the role of AI in workplace safety monitoring continues to expand, it is imperative that privacy remains at the forefront of technological advancements. Our commitment to data privacy serves as the guiding principle for our AI company, ensuring that workers’ rights are upheld, and their privacy is preserved.
With our new obfuscation features, Buddywise provides businesses with advanced computer vision capabilities while respecting the privacy of individuals. By empowering workers through privacy-centric practices, we establish a foundation of trust and respect in the workplace.
Moving forward, we will continue to develop innovative solutions that not only prioritize safety but also champion data privacy. By doing so, we aspire to set new industry standards and contribute to a future where AI-driven workplace safety seamlessly coexists with individual privacy and worker empowerment.
